Job Description
Employer: Metals USA Material Handler/Saw Operator - 2nd Shift Metals USA has an immediate opening for a Material Handler / Saw Operator - 2nd Shift in our Oakwood, GA facility. The Material Handler / Saw Operator works under limited supervision, performing duties related to the storage and movement of inventory or equipment. The position reports to Group Leader /Shift Supervisor. * Receives and returns materials into stock inventory locations * Tags materials for proper identification * Pulls and assembles customer orders in order of delivery * Operates yard truck for the purpose of loading and unloading trailers * Operates cranes to load and unload trailers * Operates forklift (5k or 10k) to load and unload trailers * Loads and secures material onto truck * Completes and production and quality paperwork; follows shop system data collection procedures. * Performs tasks that include grinding and using an oxy fuel torch * Maintains work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner, including the return of tools and equipment to designated areas. * Assures all machine operation centers are timely loaded with material for production * Notifies management of product discrepancies, equipment malfunctions and/or personal injuries. * Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a Material Handler. Qualifications * High school diploma or GED * Math skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions * Ability to understand verbal and written communication * Proficient measuring skills and ability to read measuring tapes and micrometers * Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and documents, blueprints * Industrial warehouse experience * Experience working with heavy equipment preferred * Overhead crane or forklift experience * Detail oriented with ability to inspect material for quality * Must pass pre-employment drug screen * Physical Demands: Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time (> 5.5 hours per day) * Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend * Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistance Other Physical Requirements: * Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) * Steel-toed boots or metatarsal boots * Hard hats with chin strap; chin strap must be worn at all times while in the warehouse * Protective eyewear * Hand protection * Arm guards/sleeves * Hearing protection if required by the hearing conservation program Work Environment: May be exposed to some of the following working conditions. * Environmental temperature changes hot & cold * Working inside and outside of an industrial warehouse * Moderate to loud levels * Vibration * Oils, dust, fumes and metallic particles * Day and night shifts
Requirements
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and possess strong math and measuring skills. Previous industrial warehouse experience and proficiency with heavy equipment such as overhead cranes or forklifts are preferred.
